WAYNE, PA — Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE: TFX) is using clinical data from an investigator-led study to support trans-radial use of its Dynetic-35 stent for treating iliac artery lesions, offering physicians an alternative when traditional femoral access is complicated or unsuitable.
The medical technology company plans to feature the Dynetic-35 Balloon-Expandable Cobalt Chromium Stent System at CIRSE 2026 in Copenhagen.
The previously presented BIONETIC-TRA study evaluated the safety and feasibility of using the device through radial artery access to treat atherosclerotic iliac artery lesions. The study included a 30-day follow-up period.
Researchers achieved a 100% procedural success rate through radial access using the Dynetic-35 stent, according to Teleflex. The approach also produced a low rate of asymptomatic radial artery occlusion and was associated with what the study characterized as a non-complex learning curve.
Dr. Michael Lichtenberg of Vascular Center Arnsberg in Germany led the study. Eligible patients were at least 18 years old and had de novo, re-stenotic or re-occluded iliac artery lesions suitable for treatment with the Dynetic-35 stent.
The research focused in part on avoiding challenges associated with common femoral artery access, including calcification, stenosis and bleeding, particularly among older patients and those with critical limb ischemia.
“Our findings support the trans-radial approach with the Dynetic-35 Balloon-Expandable Stent System as an alternative for iliac artery interventions, particularly in patients where femoral access is complicated or contraindicated,” Lichtenberg stated.
The Dynetic-35 is a permanent cobalt chromium alloy implant with Teleflex’s proBIO coating and is pre-mounted on an over-the-wire PTA balloon catheter delivery system. The device is compatible with 6F delivery systems and usable lengths of as much as 170 centimeters, enabling radial access.
Teleflex distributes the stent in selected countries for treatment of iliac artery lesions.
“Device configurations and supportive clinical data for treating iliac disease via trans-radial access have been limited,” Prof. Dr. Georg Nollert, Teleflex vice president of medical affairs, stated. He described alternative access options as a focus of the company’s catheter-based technology development.
