Raw Goat, Dirty Slicers, and Cooling Violations Trigger Chester County Citations

Food Safety Inspections

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County Health Department inspectors cited five food establishments for violations during May 5 inspections, including restaurants in West Chester, Downingtown, Kennett Square and Malvern.

The health department said inspection reports are a “snapshot” of conditions observed at the time of inspection and may not reflect an establishment’s long-term sanitation or food safety status.

Classic Diner Catering, 827 Lincoln Avenue, Unit 9, West Chester, was cited for unclean floor drains, a plastic liner on the walk-in freezer floor, unlabeled squeeze bottles and deteriorating ceiling conditions in the main food preparation area.

Inspectors also ordered the facility to install a vinyl-faced drop ceiling in the main food preparation area.

Downingtown Country Club, 93 Country Club Drive, Downingtown, was cited for an open employee beverage container on a food preparation counter, cups being used as scoops in dry goods containers, an unclean ice chute, blocked handwashing sink access and cheese sauce being reheated in a hot holding unit instead of to the required temperature before hot holding.

Hilton Garden Inn Kennett Square, 815 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, was cited after an employee was observed changing tasks without proper handwashing, raw shell eggs were stored above ready-to-eat foods and refrigerated products were found at room temperature.

Inspectors also cited the facility for dented cans, damaged dumpsters, improper shelving, employee eating in the kitchen and food-contact equipment stored near an apron collection container.

King’s Garden Restaurant, 308 South High Street, West Chester, was cited during a follow-up inspection for using time rather than temperature to control ready-to-eat foods without written procedures, cooling dumplings at room temperature, residue on a deli slicer, kitchen ceiling tiles that were painted rather than replaced and bleach not labeled for food-contact surfaces.

Kolapasi Indian Canteen, 650 Carnegie Boulevard, Suite 145, Malvern, was cited after employees were observed blowing into gloves and putting on gloves without prior handwashing.
