WEST GROVE, PA — Five families have become homeowners in Chester County through a $1.2 million U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development financing package, highlighting how federal housing programs and local partnerships are expanding access to affordable homeownership in rural Pennsylvania.

U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Acting Pennsylvania State Director Jeremy Wilson marked National Homeownership Month during an event in West Grove celebrating completion of the five homes, which were built through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity and community volunteers.

The USDA Rural Development Single Family Housing Direct Home Loan Program provided $1.2 million in financing for the homes. The program offers direct loans to eligible individuals and families to purchase or build homes in rural communities.

“Starting my career with Rural Development in the Single Family Housing Program, I’ve witnessed the impact of helping individuals and families build, purchase, and repair their homes,” Wilson said. “This event demonstrates the impact our programs and partnerships have in our communities.”

Federal officials pointed to homeownership as a key tool for building household wealth and long-term financial stability while emphasizing the role of public-private partnerships in increasing housing opportunities.

According to USDA Rural Development, the agency works with lenders, builders, and community organizations to expand awareness of available housing programs and improve access for first-time homebuyers and working families. The Single Family Housing Direct Home Loan Program is designed to help eligible borrowers purchase or construct homes in rural areas.
