WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Tuesday, the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry passed the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act with bipartisan support. The legislation, approved by voice vote, seeks to reintroduce whole milk into school lunch programs while providing additional flexibility for non-dairy alternatives.

The bill is co-sponsored by Pennsylvania Senators John Fetterman (D-PA) and Dave McCormick (R-PA), reflecting a bipartisan collaboration to improve school nutrition and support the dairy industry.

“If we want to make sure our kids can learn, grow, and thrive, we must make sure they’re receiving healthy school meals that fit their needs,” said Senator Fetterman, who serves on the committee. “I’m proud to support the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, as amended, to allow whole milk back in schools and include necessary flexibilities for non-dairy alternatives.”

Senator McCormick echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of the legislation to Pennsylvania’s economy and children’s well-being. “Our incredible dairy industry is the backbone of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” McCormick said. “I’m proud to join Senator Fetterman and our colleagues to support this commonsense bill that is a clear win for our hardworking dairy farmers and the well-being of our children.”

The legislation aligns with Senator Fetterman’s ongoing efforts to increase adaptability within the National School Lunch Program. He has also introduced the Freedom in School Cafeterias and Lunches (FISCAL) Act, which aims to expand beverage options available to students, ensuring broader inclusivity in school meal programs.
