HARRISBURG, PA — Chester County municipalities and emergency-service agencies will receive more than $2.56 million in state gaming-funded grants for road, bridge, water, and public-safety projects, including $2.31 million for projects backed by state Rep. Dan Williams in the 74th Legislative District.
The funding was awarded through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Local Share Account, which distributes gaming revenue to counties for public-interest projects, according to Williams’ office.
Honey Brook Borough received the largest allocation in Williams’ district, with $559,000 divided among three infrastructure projects.
The borough will use $300,000 for milling, overlay, and base repairs covering about 1,435 square feet of Maple Street. Another $162,000 will support rehabilitation of Water Street between Maple and Walnut streets, while $97,000 will go toward repairs to the Shirktown Road Water Tank.
Chester County received $400,000 to purchase software and equipment for its 911 call center.
Coatesville was awarded $340,000 for emergency-response equipment. Washington Hose Co. No. 1 will receive $240,000 toward an ambulance, while the city Fire Department will receive $100,000 toward a fire engine and ladder truck.
Keystone Valley Fire Department received $200,000 toward a new fire engine for regional use, while Elverson-Honey Brook Area EMS was awarded $100,000 for two quick-response vehicles serving Honey Brook Township and surrounding communities.
Minquas Fire Co. No. 2 will receive $100,000 to purchase cardiac monitor and defibrillator units for regional use.
The grants also direct $200,000 to Valley Township for reconstruction of a section of Wagontown Road between Manor Road and East Glencrest Road that collapsed in 2014.
Sadsbury Township received $200,000 toward construction of a replacement for the failing Compass Road Bridge.
Parkesburg Borough was awarded $100,000 toward a new public works garage. Existing sheds and other structures at the project site are slated for demolition to make way for the facility.
Valley Township will separately receive $65,000 to purchase and equip a police vehicle for incident-command operations. West Caln Township was awarded $50,000 toward the purchase and outfitting of a heavy-duty dump truck.
“These investments are about making sure our communities have the resources they need to keep residents safe,” Williams said. “This funding will have a direct impact on the quality of life in our communities, from repairing roads and replacing a bridge to equipping our first responders and upgrading emergency communications.”
Williams also supported an additional $252,761 award with other Chester County lawmakers for the Chester County Water Resources Authority. That funding will be used for flood-safety equipment, sensors and signs across the county.
The combined awards cited by Williams’ office total $2,566,761, including the countywide Water Resources Authority project. Williams currently represents Pennsylvania’s 74th Legislative District in Chester County.
