CHADDS FORD, PA — On fields where American, British and Hessian soldiers fought and fell nearly 250 years ago, the community will gather this September to remember the lives caught in one of the largest battles of the American Revolution.
Brandywine Battlefield Park will host a Remembrance Day Ceremony on Sept. 11 marking the 249th anniversary of the Battle of Brandywine, inviting visitors to reflect on the soldiers who fought across the Chadds Ford landscape during the Philadelphia campaign.
The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. at the historic battlefield, where the events of Sept. 11, 1777, unfolded across farms, roads and hillsides as British and American forces fought for control of the route toward Philadelphia.
Rather than simply recounting the battle, the evening is intended as a solemn commemoration of those who died there.
“In this place where American, British, and Hessian soldiers fell, we gather in solemn reflection to honor their lives and to remember the weight of the struggle that unfolded across this landscape,” organizers stated. “Their sacrifice still echoes and we commemorate it with gratitude and reverence.”
