MALVERN, PA — The Institutes Designations announced it has launched a new Associate in Insurance AI (AIAI) credential aimed at helping insurance professionals understand and apply artificial intelligence in risk management and insurance operations.
The organization said the designation was developed in response to growing industry demand for AI knowledge, citing a 2025 Global Priorities survey by the International Insurance Society that found two-thirds of insurance executives ranked AI as their top technology priority.
According to The Institutes, the AIAI designation is designed to improve AI literacy, including how to interpret AI-driven insights and apply them in underwriting, claims, customer service, and decision-making.
The program includes three courses and an ethics requirement focused on the use of AI in insurance, according to the organization.
The Institutes said the curriculum also addresses limitations of AI, including when human judgment should override automated outputs and how to avoid overreliance on AI tools.
“AI is fundamentally changing how organizations assess risk, serve customers, and make decisions,” said Adam Carmichael, president of The Institutes Knowledge Group. He added that the designation is intended to help professionals apply AI responsibly within the industry.
The organization said the credential is intended for professionals at various career stages, from entry-level workers to senior leaders, and is designed to support workforce adaptation as AI becomes more widely used.
The Institutes, a nonprofit with more than 115 years of experience in risk management and insurance education, said additional information about the program is available at TheInstitutes.org/AIAI.
