WAYNE, PA — TekniPlex Healthcare plans to showcase recyclable pharmaceutical packaging materials and expanded vial production capacity at an industry conference in Switzerland as European sustainability regulations reshape packaging requirements for drugmakers.
The company said it will present its latest pharmaceutical packaging technologies at The Pharma Days 2026 conference in Geneva on May 27 and 28, including recyclable blister packaging materials, barrier films, and multidose vial manufacturing capabilities.
The event comes as pharmaceutical manufacturers face increasing pressure to reduce packaging waste and improve recyclability under the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, known as PPWR.
Robin Van Landeghem, TekniPlex Healthcare’s head of strategic innovation and market development, is scheduled to present on recyclable polymer solutions for pharmaceutical blister packaging during the conference.
“Recyclability and material reduction are no longer aspirational,” Van Landeghem stated. “They are converging into the baseline expectation for blister formats.”
TekniPlex said its recyclable blister packaging portfolio includes polypropylene-based films designed for products requiring moderate to high moisture barriers, along with polyester-based packaging materials for lower-barrier pharmaceutical applications.
The company also disclosed development of a pharmaceutical-grade blister film containing 30% post-consumer recycled material through a mass-balance manufacturing approach.
In addition to recyclable materials, TekniPlex plans to feature barrier laminates and PFAS-free coated film products intended for drugs requiring stronger protection against moisture and oxygen exposure.
Separately, the company said it has expanded injection blow molding capacity at its Modena, Italy, facility to support multidose vial production, including packaging used in preservative-free ophthalmic drug applications.
The expanded production capabilities include bottle sizes ranging from 5 milliliters to 30 milliliters, including packaging designed for Aptar Pharma’s ophthalmic squeeze dispenser platform.
