Lavazza Brings Capsule-Free Coffee System to U.S. Market

Lavazza Group

WEST CHESTER, PA — Lavazza is bringing its Tablì coffee system to the United States, betting that a capsule-free, single-serve format can carve out a place in one of the fastest-growing segments of the coffee industry as consumers seek convenience without traditional pods or capsules.

The launch marks the first market expansion for Tablì outside Italy and represents a key component of Lavazza’s broader North American growth strategy.

Unlike conventional single-serve systems that rely on plastic or aluminum capsules, Tablì uses compressed tabs made entirely of coffee. The tabs are produced using proprietary technology that compresses pre-measured, ground and tamped coffee into a solid brewing format designed for use in a dedicated Tablì machine.

The product enters a highly competitive market dominated by pod-based brewing systems, where manufacturers are increasingly looking for ways to differentiate through convenience, sustainability and beverage quality.

Lavazza said the technology is the result of five years of research and development and is supported by more than 15 patents. The company designed the tabs to expand during brewing, producing the crema commonly associated with espresso beverages.

The system will launch with five coffee varieties: Super Crema, Espresso, Double Espresso, Lungo and Decaf.

Daniele Foti, vice president of marketing for Lavazza North America, described the United States as a strategic growth market and said the company selected it as the first international launch destination for the platform.

“The U.S. is one of the most dynamic markets in the world, and the momentum we’ve built here across our different segments is exactly why we’re bringing Tablì here as the first market outside Italy,” Foti said.

The Tablì product lineup includes a dedicated brewing machine available in Graphite Black, Sand White and Walnut Brown finishes, along with a milk frother and coffee-tab storage accessories.

Lavazza is currently accepting preorders through TabliCoffee.us. The introductory bundle includes the Tablì machine, milk frother, 60-count variety collection of coffee tabs and a tab tweezer for $99.99, compared with a stated retail value of $249.99.

The broader U.S. launch is scheduled for August through LavazzaUSA.com, with availability expected to expand to Amazon later this year.

Founded in Turin, Italy, in 1895, Lavazza has increasingly focused on expanding its presence in North America as competition intensifies in the premium at-home coffee market and consumer demand for single-serve brewing systems continues to grow.
