Annovis Promotes Research Chief as Lead Drug Nears Key Trial

Annovis Bio

MALVERN, PA — Annovis Bio (NYSE: ANVS) has promoted Cheng Fang to chief scientific officer as the biotechnology company prepares for pivotal clinical and regulatory milestones for its lead drug candidate targeting Alzheimer’s disease.

Fang, who joined the company in 2021 and most recently served as senior vice president of research and development, will oversee scientific strategy, translational research, clinical development, biomarker strategy and regulatory interactions across Annovis’ Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease programs.

The leadership change comes as Annovis advances buntanetap, its investigational oral therapy for neurodegenerative diseases, toward a top-line data readout from its Phase 3 Alzheimer’s disease study and a planned New Drug Application submission.

Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer Maria Maccecchini said Fang has played a central role in the development of buntanetap, including the design and oversight of clinical trials incorporating cognitive, functional and biomarker endpoints.

Fang has held senior leadership and academic positions focused on translational research, clinical development and regulatory strategy for neurodegenerative diseases.

She earned a doctorate in neuroscience from Pennsylvania State University and a bachelor’s degree in biopharmaceutical sciences from Nanjing University.

The appointment places Fang in charge of the company’s scientific operations as Annovis seeks to advance buntanetap through late-stage development and toward potential regulatory review.
