Chesterbrook Fintech Takes Aim at Legacy Banking Systems

Adapfin Technologies

CHESTERBROOK, PA — adapfin will demonstrate its Nucleus BankOS at Finovate Fall in New York on Sept. 9 by building a banking product in less than seven minutes, positioning the Chesterbrook-based fintech’s platform as an alternative to costly, multi-year replacements of legacy core banking systems.

The company plans to build the product live, including customer onboarding and servicing, as it seeks to show banks and credit unions that new products can be deployed without first replacing their existing core infrastructure.

Nucleus is designed to operate alongside incumbent banking technology, allowing financial institutions to move individual products and operations onto the platform incrementally. adapfin calls the approach “Progressive Core Independence.”

The strategy targets a longstanding technology constraint for banks: modernizing aging core systems without taking on the operational risk and expense associated with an all-at-once conversion.

“If launching a new banking product requires months of development, dozens of integrations and permission from your core provider, the bank doesn’t really control its technology,” adapfin Chief Executive Officer Endre Walls said.

Nucleus combines core banking, data, operations, risk and regulatory functions within a common architecture. The platform is organized around individual customers rather than separate accounts and products, according to the company.

adapfin also incorporates artificial intelligence into the platform to analyze data across an institution for customer and operational uses. The company says consolidating those functions can reduce the number of separate systems, integrations and vendors required to operate a financial institution.

The company’s approach does not require banks to abandon existing systems at the outset. Institutions can instead deploy Nucleus for selected capabilities and progressively shift additional operations if the platform meets their requirements.

That model places adapfin in the market for bank technology modernization by challenging the traditional choice between maintaining legacy cores with additional software layers and undertaking wholesale core-system replacements.
