WAYNE, PA — BTCS Inc. (Nasdaq: BTCS) has expanded its Imperium decentralized finance business onto Coinbase-created Base as the blockchain company broadens beyond Ethereum mainnet after increasing assets deployed in paired liquidity pools to about $36 million from $8 million at the end of the second quarter.
The move marks Imperium’s first expansion beyond Ethereum mainnet and begins a multi-chain strategy intended to let BTCS shift digital assets among networks as transaction volumes, demand and potential returns change.
BTCS said Imperium’s growth accelerated during the third quarter, with paired liquidity pool assets increasing more than fourfold from the end of the second quarter to their current level.
Chief Executive Officer Charles Allen said the increase puts BTCS in a position to surpass its $6 million gross profit target for the year.
“Operating across multiple networks and assets lets us dynamically provide liquidity where volume and demand shift, and Base is our first step beyond Ethereum mainnet,” Allen said.
Imperium, launched in 2025, generates revenue by deploying digital assets, currently Ether and stablecoins, into smart contract-based protocols used for decentralized lending, borrowing and liquidity provisioning.
Unlike staking, where rewards are set by the underlying protocol and assets can face lock-up requirements, BTCS uses Imperium to move assets among DeFi protocols and networks based on market conditions, potential profitability and risk.
Adding Base extends that model to an Ethereum Layer-2 network designed to process transactions more quickly and at lower cost than Ethereum mainnet.
BTCS said Base currently holds more than $12 billion in on-chain assets. The company cited the network’s transaction activity and demand as reasons for expanding Imperium onto the platform.
“Base has grown into one of the largest Ethereum Layer-2 networks, with over $12 billion in on-chain assets today,” Chief Technology Officer Ben Hunter said. “We continue to see strong transaction volume and rising demand on Base.”
BTCS said the additional network gives Imperium a broader pool of opportunities from which to generate and compound revenue while reducing its reliance on Ethereum mainnet as its sole operating network.
The company is evaluating additional strategies and networks for Imperium as it seeks to expand the business further.
