CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Families across Chester County are invited to jumpstart summer with a day full of games, community connections, and outdoor fun as the YMCA of Greater Brandywine hosts its annual Healthy Kids Day this Saturday.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., eight YMCA locations across the county will transform into hubs of family-friendly activity, offering everything from face painting and inflatables to interactive games, snacks, and hands-on opportunities to explore summer camp programs. The free event is open to the public and designed to help families ease into the summer season with healthy habits and active lifestyles.
Throughout the day, attendees can meet local first responders and community vendors, while also giving back through a countywide food drive. Families are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to support local food pantries ahead of the summer months, when food insecurity often increases as schools close.
Several YMCA branches will also host special events to mark the occasion. The Upper Main Line YMCA in Berwyn will partner with State Sen. Carolyn Comitta and Shreiner Tree Care to host the Chester County Earth Day Festival, while the West Chester Area YMCA will feature the “Y-ath-lon,” a kid-friendly triathlon designed to keep young participants moving. At the Jennersville YMCA, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will celebrate the opening of new outdoor pickleball courts.
At the Upper Main Line location, visitors can also take part in a community bike drive benefiting Giving Bikes Back, with donations of new or gently used bikes helping provide refurbished bicycles to local families in need.
Healthy Kids Day is part of a nationwide initiative celebrated by more than 1,300 YMCAs across the country, all focused on promoting healthier, more active communities. Local organizers say the event is about more than just a day of fun—it’s about helping families build routines that carry into the summer months.
“Summer is an important time for children to stay active, connected, and supported—both physically and mentally,” said Terri Edgar, Chief Branch Operating Officer. “At YGBW, we believe strong communities start with healthy families, and we’re proud to bring neighbors together with resources and opportunities that help families thrive year-round.”
Organizers are also highlighting the importance of structured summer activities, noting that YMCA camps offer programs for children ages 3 to 15, including traditional day camps, teen-focused experiences, adaptive camps for children with disabilities, and specialty programs in sports, arts, STEM, and more.
