THORNBURY/WESTTOWN TWP, PA — Drivers should prepare for daytime delays at one of Chester County’s busiest intersections as construction continues at U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) and Route 926 (Street Road) beginning Monday, April 6.
At a Glance
- Roads Affected: U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) and Route 926 (Street Road) intersection
- Dates: Monday, April 6 – Thursday, April 16 (weekdays)
- Times: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Reason: Intersection improvements and safety upgrades
PennDOT said lane closures with flagging will be in place through the intersection, with traffic directed through alternating patterns that may slow movement in all directions.
Drivers should plan extra time and expect backups, particularly during midday travel hours when traffic volumes remain steady along the U.S. 202 corridor.
No formal detour has been announced. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes where possible to avoid congestion near the intersection.
The work is part of a $2.9 million project to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes. Planned upgrades include a new southbound right-turn deceleration lane on U.S. 202, an added eastbound left-turn lane on Route 926 to create a double left-turn configuration, signal improvements, ADA curb ramp upgrades, and roadway resurfacing.
PennDOT officials said special provisions are in place to monitor potential impacts to the nearby Westtown Inn, which is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
All work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if necessary.
