Wilmington Man Accused In Gun, Drug Case After Arrest

WILMINGTON, DE — A 40-year-old Wilmington man is facing multiple gun and drug charges after police said he was taken into custody during an ongoing investigation into alleged illegal drug sales.

According to Wilmington police, members of the Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division, along with the New Castle County Division of Police Drug and Human Trafficking Investigations Team, had been conducting a joint investigation into Robert Truitt in the 800 block of North Monroe Street.

Police reported that on Friday at approximately 2:12 p.m., officers located Truitt in the 800 block of North Monroe Street and took him into custody without incident.

According to investigators, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, approximately 0.54 grams of heroin, 0.36 grams of crack cocaine, and 26 Suboxone strips at the time of the arrest. Police said a subsequent search warrant executed in the same block of North Monroe Street led to the recovery of a loaded .32 caliber revolver.

Truitt has been charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited (four counts), possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver (two counts), carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police.

Authorities said Truitt was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $37,700 cash-only bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
