EXTON, PA — Nearly 300 Chester County seniors will soon be riding SEPTA for free after a local outreach event helped older residents secure Senior Key Cards that eliminate transit fares across much of Pennsylvania.
State Sen. Carolyn Comitta’s office assisted 284 seniors in applying for SEPTA Senior Key Cards during a recent event at the Chester County Library in Exton, expanding access to free public transportation for residents ages 65 and older.
The SEPTA Senior Fare program, funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery, allows seniors to ride SEPTA transit and regional rail lines for free within Pennsylvania. Trips to and from New Jersey and Delaware are offered at half fare when using a senior card.
“Whether it’s getting to a doctor’s appointment, running errands, visiting family, or taking a day trip to the city, SEPTA Senior Key Cards help our residents get wherever they need to go,” Comitta said. She added that her office regularly helps seniors obtain or renew their cards and thanked library staff for hosting the event.
In addition to processing applications, Comitta’s staff connected attendees with other state programs and resources designed to support older Pennsylvanians.
Seniors who were unable to attend the Exton event but are interested in applying for a free Senior Key Card or renewing an existing card can contact Comitta’s office at 610-692-2112 or visit https://www.pasenatorcomitta.com/contact. Appointments are available at her West Chester district office and at eight monthly outreach locations throughout the district.
