A String of Crashes, Investigations, and Odd Calls Keep Troopers Busy in Chester County

Pennsylvania State Police

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — A series of crashes, traffic stops, thefts, and unusual police calls kept Pennsylvania State Police busy across Chester County in mid-November, according to newly released public information reports. The incidents, ranging from DUI-related traffic stops to a welfare check involving a deceased resident, unfolded between Nov. 11 and Nov. 18.

Troopers began the week with multiple vehicle crashes across London Grove Township. In one single-vehicle crash on U.S. 1 southbound, a Hyundai Elantra veered off the roadway before being towed from the scene. No injuries were reported. A second crash the same morning involved another Hyundai that overcompensated on a turn and struck a utility pole, though the driver also avoided injury.

In East Marlborough Township, two vehicles collided on E Street Road when one driver followed another too closely, causing front- and rear-end damage. One motorist was evaluated for possible injuries. A separate crash in Upper Oxford Township along U.S. 1 resulted in disabling damage to a Honda Accord after the driver lost control. In Penn Township, a Ford F-150 struck a guide rail on U.S. 1, leaving significant front-end damage but no injuries.

Troopers also responded to a midday incident on Limestone Road involving a deer strike that caused extensive front-end vehicle damage. The driver was uninjured. Later, a two-vehicle crash on Lenape Road in East Marlborough Township left both vehicles damaged after one driver attempted a left turn without yielding, striking another vehicle at the 2-o’clock position. No injuries were reported, though both operators were cited.

The report also details several non-crash incidents. On Nov. 18, troopers conducted a traffic stop in Thornbury Township and discovered the driver was operating with a suspended DUI-related license. The individual was identified as a habitual offender.

A missing firearm call on Nov. 18 in Thornbury Township prompted troopers to enter the weapon into the NCIC database. Earlier in the week, a traffic stop in Kennett Township led to the discovery of a controlled substance, and the driver — a 43-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware — was taken into custody before being released pending charges.

Other incidents included a retail theft at the Walmart in Lower Oxford Township involving more than $422 in stolen merchandise, an identity theft case in East Marlborough Township in which a 74-year-old woman’s phone number was compromised, and the discovery of a recording device inside a Nottingham residence. Troopers also recovered a pocket knife from a student at a West Fallowfield Township school. All cases remain under investigation.

The most serious non-traffic incident occurred on Nov. 14, when troopers conducted a welfare check on Gap Newport Pike in Londonderry Township. A 68-year-old Coatesville-area man was found deceased on his living room couch after a postal worker noticed mail piling up at the residence. Police believe the victim suffered a medical emergency.

Troopers also responded to Oxford Plumbing and Heating for repeated false alarms, resulting in a non-traffic citation issued to the business.

All investigations remain active. Any potential suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
