PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation has awarded the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia (PAL) a $150,000 grant to expand youth programs, improve visibility of PAL centers, and strengthen after-school meals, fitness, and mentorship initiatives across the city.
The grant, funded through the Foundation by longtime Philadelphia Dunkin’ franchisee Sonny Ho, will support PAL’s efforts to provide safe spaces and positive outlets for underserved youth. A community celebration marking the investment will take place September 24 at the Harrowgate PAL Center, featuring a grant check presentation, new signage unveiling, activities, and Dunkin’-themed giveaways.
Ho, a dedicated PAL sponsor, has contributed more than $250,000 to the organization over the past three years and has supported its mission for more than 15 years. “On behalf of the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation, we are honored to support PAL’s mission to keep area children healthy, safe, and connected to their communities,” Ho said. “It’s a privilege to give back by ensuring today’s youth have the resources, mentorship, and safe spaces they need.”
The grant is part of the Foundation’s Joyful Spaces initiative, which focuses on enhancing health and wellness opportunities for children. Specifically, funding will:
- Add new signage to PAL centers to improve accessibility and strengthen neighborhood connections.
- Expand community meals through programs such as Andales on Wheels, Vetri Cooking Lab sessions, and gardening and cooking initiatives.
- Broaden after-school and summer activities that integrate fitness, mental health support, and nutrition education.
“Dunkin’s $150,000 investment means PAL will become even more visible and accessible to families across the city,” said Erica Vanstone, Executive Director of PAL. “With Dunkin’s support, PAL can provide more healthy resources for kids in our centers. We’re beyond grateful for the partnership in helping us build healthier habits and brighter futures.”
The investment supports PAL’s mission to engage more than 18 centers across Philadelphia, where thousands of children benefit from structured programs that promote safety, wellness, and community connection.
