NEWARK, DE — A New Castle man has been arrested in connection with an alleged strong-arm robbery in Newark, according to the Delaware State Police.
Authorities report that 30-year-old Erik Yancey was taken into custody following an investigation into a robbery that occurred shortly after midnight on July 24, 2025, outside Moon Spa on Capitol Trail.
According to investigators, the victim was attempting to enter his vehicle when an unknown male suspect allegedly opened the driver’s side door and demanded the victim’s belongings. The suspect, whose hand was reportedly wrapped in cloth, implied he was armed and threatened to shoot the victim before punching him and fleeing with personal property. The victim sustained minor injuries.
The victim later drove to a nearby business, where an employee contacted 9-1-1.
Investigators identified the suspect as Yancey and allege he used the victim’s credit card in Wilmington shortly after the incident. He was located and arrested on July 25 in Wilmington without incident.
Yancey has been charged with one count of Robbery in the First Degree, a felony, and one count of Unlawful Use of a Payment Card under $1,500. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $51,000 cash bail.
All charges remain allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
