Patrick Schmid Appointed Chief Insurance Officer at Insurance Information Institute

MALVERN, PA — The Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I), an affiliate of The Institutes, has announced the appointment of Patrick Schmid as its new chief insurance officer, effective July 11, 2025. Schmid succeeds Dale Porfilio, who is stepping down after four years of service to pursue new opportunities.

In his expanded role, Schmid will lead the Triple-I’s Catastrophe Resiliency Council and the Insurance Research Council (IRC), reporting to Triple-I CEO Sean Kevelighan. He will also continue as president of The Institutes’ RiskStream Collaborative, where he will report to Pete Miller, president and CEO at The Institutes.

Kevelighan expressed gratitude for Porfilio’s leadership, noting that he played a pivotal role in strengthening Triple-I’s value proposition to its members and shaping critical industry initiatives. “We are fortunate to have a strong succession plan in place with Pat,” Kevelighan said. “His expertise in strategy, risk management, and collaborative innovation makes him an excellent fit for this expanded leadership role.”

Porfilio reflected on his tenure with appreciation, highlighting his work educating consumers, media, policymakers, and industry professionals. He expressed enthusiasm for continuing to contribute to the insurance industry in the next chapter of his career.

Schmid brings nearly two decades of experience within The Institutes to his new position, including leadership roles as vice president of RiskStream Collaborative, assistant vice president of enterprise research, and director of research at IRC. Before joining The Institutes, he served as an economist at Moody’s Analytics.

Beyond his industry roles, Schmid holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in economics from Temple University and has taught economics and finance at multiple Philadelphia-area institutions, including Albright College, Drexel University, Saint Joseph’s University, Temple University, and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
