MONTGOMERY TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that the Five-Points Intersection in Montgomery Township, Montgomery County, will be closed overnight from 11:00 PM on Sunday, June 22, to 5:00 AM on Monday, June 23, for a critical traffic signal installation.
The heavily trafficked intersection, where Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike), Route 463 (Horsham Road/Cowpath Road), and Business U.S. 202 (Doylestown Road) converge, will undergo closures requiring detours for multiple directions of travel. Key alternative routes include Broad Street, Main Street/Welsh Road (Route 63), the U.S. 202 Bypass, and County Line Road. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and expect delays during the overnight work period.
This installation is part of PennDOT’s broader $14.2 million initiative to enhance safety and reduce traffic congestion at this intersection. The project includes adding lanes to improve travel flow, upgrading traffic signal systems with retiming capabilities, and other infrastructure improvements such as sidewalk installations, ADA accessibility upgrades, stormwater drainage enhancements, and improved signage.
The upgrades will result in 18 travel lanes leading into the intersection, up from the current 15, with the goal of easing congestion and reducing crash risks. Additional adjustments, including driveway access changes and erosion control measures, are incorporated into the comprehensive plan.
Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County, is leading the federally funded project.
