WEST CHESTER, PA — The West Chester Area School District has appointed new assistant principals at Henderson High School and Fugett Middle School, bringing two veteran educators with outside district experience into instructional leadership roles at the secondary schools.
The school board approved Jacquelyn “Jackie” Longan as assistant principal at Henderson and Amy Terkanian as assistant principal at Fugett on Aug. 24.
Longan joins Henderson with more than 20 years of experience in education. She most recently worked as a gifted education specialist in the Downingtown Area School District after previously serving there as a district instructional coach.
As an instructional coach, Longan worked with teachers and administrators on professional learning, student-data analysis, and instructional practices. Her professional-development work included formative assessment, data-driven instruction, standards-based grading, curriculum design, mathematical discourse and student engagement.
“Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about strengthening instruction and supporting educators so that every student has access to high-quality learning experiences,” Longan said.
Longan holds a PK-12 principal certification and instructional coach endorsement from Eastern University. She earned a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from West Chester University.
Terkanian comes to Fugett with 20 years of experience in elementary and middle school education. She previously worked at Garnet Valley Middle School as a math and science educator and math specialist.
Her experience includes data-driven instructional practices, developing new middle school teachers, and work involving Restorative Practices, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, and digital citizenship and technology in education.
Terkanian holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Rutgers University and received her principal certification from West Chester University, where she is pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership and curriculum and instruction.
“I look forward to building meaningful connections with the students and families of Fugett Middle School to foster a safe, inspiring, and thriving school community,” Terkanian said.
Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education James Conley cited the two administrators’ instructional leadership and focus on student growth in discussing the appointments.
