WEST CHESTER, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced continued work on a project to improve safety along the Business U.S. 322 (High Street) corridor in West Chester Borough and West Goshen Township, Chester County. The upgrades are part of a comprehensive effort to enhance roadway functionality and pedestrian safety in the area.
Starting Thursday, June 12, 2025, through Friday, June 20, 2025, weekday lane closures with flagging will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Business U.S. 322 between Barnard Street and Sharpless Street. Motorists traveling in or near the construction zone should anticipate delays and are advised to allow extra time. All work schedules are weather dependent.
This extensive project, overseen by Marino Corporation of Skippack, Pennsylvania, includes several enhancements such as the installation of new traffic signals at University Avenue and Sharpless Street, retroreflective backplates on existing signals, energy-efficient LED lighting, and pedestrian countdown timers. Additional safety features will include curb extensions, high-visibility crosswalks, and drainage improvements. The project also entails full-depth pavement restoration and a complete resurfacing of the roadway.
Funded exclusively through federal dollars, the $2.6 million project is set to conclude in the winter of 2026. PennDOT aims to significantly improve both driving and pedestrian conditions along this busy corridor, ensuring safer and more efficient travel for commuters and residents alike.
As construction continues, PennDOT reminds motorists to exercise patience and caution when navigating through work zones.
