WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a $63.7 million construction project focused on resurfacing, repairing, and modernizing nearly 17 miles of I-476. This extensive work spans from the I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) interchange in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County, to the I-95 interchange in Ridley Township, Delaware County.
Scheduled nighttime lane closures will take place from Monday, May 5, through Friday, May 9, between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM. These closures will affect both northbound and southbound sections of I-476, as well as ramps to and from U.S. 1 (Exit 5) interchanges, for bridge superstructure repairs, utility work, and stormwater basin remediation. Motorists are advised to plan for delays while traveling through affected zones. The schedule remains subject to weather conditions.
The project includes multiple enhancements designed to extend the roadway’s lifespan and improve its safety. Specific work involves milling and repaving travel lanes and shoulders, repairing 49 bridges, stabilizing rock slopes, and upgrading 21 stormwater management basins. Additional plans include inlet replacements, sound wall repairs, and the installation of new guiderails, signage, rumble strips, and pavement markers.
H&K Group, Inc., based in Skippack, PA, has been appointed as the general contractor for this initiative, which is entirely federally funded. Construction is expected to reach completion by late 2025.
