CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Eastbound U.S. 30 (Exton Bypass) will close overnight Sunday, August 23, and Monday, August 24, between Quarry Road and Whitford Road, forcing drivers onto a detour while crews complete milling and paving tied to a sinkhole remediation project.
At a Glance
- Roads Affected: Eastbound U.S. 30 (Exton Bypass) between Quarry Road and Whitford Road.
- Dates: Sunday, August 23, through Tuesday morning, August 25.
- Times: 8:30 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning on both nights.
- Reason: Milling, paving, and sinkhole remediation.
During both closures, drivers will be directed to use Quarry Road, Business U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue), and Route 100 (Pottstown Pike).
PennDOT advises motorists to plan extra time when traveling near the work zone or along the detour route because backups and delays are expected. The schedule depends on weather conditions.
The closures are part of a $6.8 million project addressing sinkholes at two locations along the Exton Bypass between Business U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and Clover Mill Road in West Whiteland and East Caln townships.
Crews will drill holes through the pavement in a grid pattern and inject pressurized grout into underground voids. The process is intended to stabilize the ground beneath the roadway and reduce the risk of future sinkholes.
Additional work includes reconstructing pavement, replacing drainage pipes, and stabilizing roadside drainage swales.
Road-Con, of West Chester, is the general contractor. The project is financed entirely with federal funds.
