KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — As the United States continues to celebrate its 250th anniversary, the Washington Memorial Veterans Commission will mark Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11, with a special mass and reception honoring the generations of American men and women whose courage, commitment, and sacrifice have helped safeguard the nation’s freedom for nearly two and a half centuries.
Held at the historic Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge, the 11 AM gathering will bring the community together to recognize America’s veterans and reflect on the enduring meaning of service, patriotism, and the freedoms established at the nation’s founding.
The Choral Matins Mass will pay tribute to veterans of all wars, honoring their dedication to protecting the ideals upon which America was built. At 11 AM the Chapel’s Carillon Bells will toll in remembrance of those who served and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Adding special significance to this year’s observance, Major General Wesley E. Craig, Jr. (Ret.), U.S. Army, will serve as the guest speaker. An Oreland, PA resident, distinguished 40-year military veteran, and former Adjutant General of Pennsylvania, Craig brings a unique perspective on the responsibilities and lasting impact of military service, having dedicated his career to leading those who defend the nation and supporting those who have worn its uniform.
As the 51st Adjutant General of Pennsylvania and Commander of the Pennsylvania National Guard, Craig oversaw the state’s Army and Air National Guard, six state veterans’ homes, and programs serving approximately one million Pennsylvania veterans. His leadership placed him at the intersection of military readiness, public service, and veteran advocacy, making him a particularly meaningful voice for a Veterans Day observance that looks both to America’s history and its future.
During his distinguished career, Craig led military units and large-scale overseas deployments while assuming statewide responsibility for Pennsylvania’s military and veteran programs. His numerous military and state honors include the Army Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal.
Following the mass, attendees are invited to a reception offering an opportunity to connect with fellow veterans, honor their experiences, and celebrate the spirit of service that continues to strengthen our communities.
The Veterans Day mass and reception are free and open to the public. A suggested $10 donation is appreciated. RSVP HERE.
