LINWOOD, PA — A 42-year-old woman was arrested after Lower Chichester Township police said employees accused her of leaving a Wawa with merchandise that had not been paid for at a self-checkout kiosk.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 12:31 p.m. Sept. 6 to the Wawa at 1439 Market St. for a reported retail theft, according to police.
Employees told officers that a customer had scanned and paid for only some of the items at the self-checkout before allegedly bagging and leaving the store with an additional $20.94 worth of merchandise, police said.
Employees reported that the woman was sitting in a white sedan parked in front of the store. Officers made contact with her and identified her as Kathryn Boccelli, 42, according to police.
After obtaining a list of the merchandise employees said had not been paid for, officers spoke with Boccelli while she remained in her vehicle. Police said officers could see several of the listed items in plain view inside the vehicle.
Police reported arresting Boccelli and charging her with retail theft. The department said the grading of the charge was based on her criminal history, noting that Pennsylvania retail theft charges may be graded differently depending on prior offenses.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
