WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man faces multiple felony charges after New Castle County police allegedly discovered a loaded handgun reported stolen from Pennsylvania during a traffic stop Saturday.
According to the New Castle County Division of Police, officers were patrolling near the intersection of Silverside Road and Carr Road at approximately 5 p.m. on June 13 when they observed a Dodge Durango commit a traffic violation.
Police reported that officers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 19-year-old Deven Williams of Wilmington.
As the investigation progressed, officers allegedly recovered a loaded 9mm handgun from inside the vehicle. According to police, the firearm had scratched and altered serial numbers. Investigators said a secondary serial number was located during further examination, and a records check indicated the handgun had been reported stolen in Pennsylvania.
Williams was taken to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged with possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, receiving a stolen firearm, and failure to obey a traffic control device, according to police.
Court records show Williams was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released after posting $23,500 unsecured bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
