Traffic Stop Reveals More Than a Registration Violation

WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man wanted on an unrelated matter was arrested and charged with multiple firearm offenses after a traffic stop last week, according to Wilmington Police.

Police reported that officers were in the area of Vandever Avenue and Northeast Boulevard at approximately 10:40 a.m. on June 5 when they conducted a vehicle stop after allegedly observing a registration violation.

According to police, officers identified the driver as 42-year-old Christopher Charles and determined he was wanted in connection with an unrelated matter.

During the investigation, officers allegedly recovered a loaded 9mm handgun and an extended magazine from the vehicle, police said. Charles was taken into custody without incident.

Police reported that Charles was charged with possession of a large-capacity magazine, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and driving while suspended or revoked, in addition to vehicle-related violations.

According to court records cited by police, Charles was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $15,250 secured bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
