WILMINGTON, DE — A 13-year-old boy faces attempted murder and other felony charges after Wilmington police alleged that multiple juveniles assaulted two adults with fireworks, leaving one victim critically injured.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:34 p.m. July 3 to the area of Ninth and North Pine streets for a reported assault involving fireworks.
Investigators allege that several juveniles attacked a 31-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman with fireworks, including a Roman candle.
Police reported that both victims were transported to a hospital. The woman was treated and later released, while the man remained hospitalized in critical condition.
The case was assigned to Detective Ryan Kilmon of the department’s Criminal Investigations Division. During the investigation, police identified a 13-year-old boy as one of the alleged participants.
Officers took the juvenile into custody without incident July 21 in the 600 block of East 10th Street, according to police.
The boy was charged with first-degree attempted murder, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and first-degree conspiracy. Following his arraignment in New Castle County Family Court, he was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of $255,000 cash-only bail, police reported.
