WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington police have identified a suspect and announced charges in connection with a shooting at Wilmington Hospital that left one person dead and another critically injured.
According to Wilmington Police, the shooting occurred on June 16 at Wilmington Hospital in the 500 block of West 14th Street, prompting a hospital lockdown and a large police response.
Investigators reported that both victims were 19-year-old males. One victim died from his injuries, while the second remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Authorities have not yet released the name of the deceased victim.
Police identified the suspect as 23-year-old John Wallace-Bey of New Castle. According to investigators, Wallace-Bey was taken into custody in Philadelphia on June 16 and is awaiting extradition to Delaware.
Authorities allege Wallace-Bey will be charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
Police previously stated that their preliminary investigation indicated the shooting was a targeted and isolated incident.
The investigation remains active, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
