WILMINGTON, DE — New Castle County Police Department said detectives arrested a Wilmington man on multiple felony drug and weapons charges following an investigation connected to a suspected overdose death.
According to investigators, the Drug and Human Trafficking Investigations Team began investigating the overdose death in March 2026.
As the investigation continued, detectives obtained search warrants for a residence in the unit block of Kings Grant Way that police said was linked to Kane Stanford, 32, of Wilmington.
Investigators executed the warrants Tuesday, May 12, 2026, and allegedly recovered about 770 bags of suspected fentanyl, a loaded 9mm handgun, a .556-caliber rifle, and a loaded .556-caliber ammunition magazine.
Police also alleged Stanford was prohibited from possessing firearms.
According to investigators, Stanford was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged with two felony counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, two felony counts of possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, Tier 3 quantity, possession of a controlled substance, Tier 3 quantity, and an additional felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Police said Stanford was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $230,000 cash bail.
Investigators said the overdose death investigation remains ongoing.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
