WILMINGTON, DE — A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with a 2025 shooting that left a victim in critical condition, police said.
According to Wilmington police, officers responded at approximately 2:25 p.m. on June 4, 2025, to the 1000 block of East 10th Street for a report of shots fired. Police reported that a 20-year-old male victim was located and later arrived at a hospital in critical condition.
Investigators said the case was assigned to Detective Justin Wilkers of the Criminal Investigations Division. According to police, the investigation led to the identification of Nyiem Mitchell, 19, as a suspect, and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.
Police reported that on April 21, 2026, officers executed a search warrant in the unit block of Printz Drive, where Mitchell was located and taken into custody without incident.
According to investigators, Mitchell has been charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.
Court records show Mitchell was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released on $65,000 secured bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
