NEW CASTLE, DE — A Wilmington man faces multiple felony charges after Delaware State Police said troopers responding to a burglary alarm found him masked inside a New Castle car dealership early Sunday.
Troopers responded at approximately 6:15 a.m. Sept. 13 to Glacier Auto Sales 2, 216 N. DuPont Highway, after receiving a burglary alarm, according to state police.
Upon arrival, troopers discovered a window had allegedly been smashed and forced open, police said. Troopers then located a masked man inside the dealership and ordered him to come outside.
Police identified the man as Stephen Lemmons, 38, of Wilmington. State police reported that Lemmons complied with officers’ commands and was taken into custody.
During a subsequent search, troopers reported recovering a concealed machete, burglar tools, and property belonging to employees of the dealership from Lemmons.
The Delaware State Police Criminal Investigations Unit took over the investigation. Detectives subsequently determined that Lemmons allegedly intended to steal a vehicle from the dealership, according to state police.
Lemmons was charged with wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, theft of $1,500 or more, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and criminal mischief. All but the criminal mischief charge were identified by police as felonies.
Lemmons was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and received a $10,100 unsecured bond in the case. Police said he was committed to the Delaware Department of Correction on capiases stemming from an unrelated matter.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
