HARRISBURG, PA — Elias Dominguez was sentenced last week to 21¾ to 43½ years in prison for the 2019 rape of an 11-year-old child in Luzerne County, according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.
Dominguez was convicted last year of rape and other offenses stemming from the abuse at a Hazleton home.
The court also designated Dominguez a sexually violent predator after hearing evidence that he met the criteria for pedophilic disorder and that his behavior was predatory in nature, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
The designation requires Dominguez to register as a sex offender for life and undergo monthly offender counseling.
As part of the sentence, Dominguez was ordered to undergo sex offender treatment and have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family. He also may not have unsupervised contact with minors or frequent locations where children congregate or are likely to congregate.
The investigation began after the child disclosed the abuse to a classmate, according to the Attorney General’s Office. The classmate informed a teacher, who reported the allegations to ChildLine.
“An 11-year-old child should never have to endure this kind of horrific abuse,” Attorney General Dave Sunday stated. “This sentence holds the defendant accountable and ensures he will spend decades behind bars for the harm he inflicted on this brave survivor.”
Senior Deputy Attorney General Jaime Keating prosecuted the case.
