Knife Threats, Tire Slashed in Dispute—Man Faces Charges

WILMINGTON, DE — A 37-year-old man has been charged following a neighborhood dispute that escalated into alleged threats involving a knife, according to police.

New Castle County police said officers responded on Saturday, May 2, at approximately 8:19 p.m. to the unit block of Hillside Road, where multiple victims reported being confronted during an ongoing dispute.

According to police, David Voyton, 37, allegedly shouted insults at the victims and, after being told to leave the property, brandished a pocketknife and punctured a vehicle tire.

Investigators reported that as the confrontation continued, Voyton allegedly made additional threats while waving the knife.

Police said officers later responded to Voyton’s residence, where he allegedly resisted arrest before being taken into custody. Authorities reported a knife was recovered from his pocket.

Voyton has been charged with three counts of aggravated menacing, one count of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, three counts of terroristic threatening, three counts of harassment, resisting arrest, criminal mischief under $1,000, and a violation of third-degree criminal trespass.

According to police, Voyton was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $28,200 secured bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
