NEWARK, DE — A New Castle man is facing drug and forgery charges after Newark police said a traffic stop led officers to suspected crack cocaine and heroin and an identification card bearing a false name.
Members of the Newark Police Department Street Crimes Unit conducted the traffic stop at approximately 9:10 p.m. Aug. 29 after observing a traffic violation, according to police.
Police said the driver provided officers with an identification card during the stop. Investigators determined the identification was allegedly fictitious and contained a false name.
As officers continued their investigation, they reported finding suspected crack cocaine and suspected heroin inside the vehicle.
Police transported the driver to the Newark Police Department, where investigators identified him as Juan Jose Serrano Rosario, 42, of New Castle.
Serrano Rosario was charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin in a Tier 2 quantity, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of heroin in a Tier 2 quantity, second-degree forgery, making a false statement to law enforcement, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and two traffic offenses.
Serrano Rosario was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $43,100 cash bail, police reported.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
