Crime, Crashes, and DUI Arrests Mount Across Chester County

EMBREEVILLE, PA — Pennsylvania State Police in Embreeville recently released reports on a wide range of incidents across Chester County and nearby Lancaster County from late January through mid-April, including alleged DUI arrests, thefts, harassment complaints, assault and sexual abuse investigations, dog law violations, criminal mischief, and multiple crashes with reported injuries.

Troopers reported that between January 20 and February 2, they investigated the unauthorized use of a vehicle on West Lincoln Highway in Valley Township involving a 57-year-old Downingtown man and a 2012 white vehicle. On February 1 at 6:33 p.m., police said a 33-year-old Coatesville woman reported receiving harassing text messages from an unknown person on Carnelian Court in South Coatesville Borough. On February 14 at 6:26 p.m., troopers were notified of criminal mischief involving a mailbox on Pumpkin Hill Road in West Nantmeal Township, where police said a mailbox valued at $200 was damaged.

On February 19 at 8:08 p.m., police reported the theft of an orange-and-black InMotion V11 electric unicycle valued at $800 from Pleasant View Road in Honey Brook Township. According to troopers, the unicycle was allegedly taken from the driveway of an Amish residence and later listed on Facebook Marketplace, where the identified seller claimed ownership. On March 5 at 2:08 a.m., troopers responded to Chestnut Tree Road in Honey Brook Township for the reported theft of a black 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche bearing Pennsylvania registration NVB4231. Police said the vehicle was believed stolen overnight.

Police reported that on March 11 at about noon, a 67-year-old Coatesville man on Kennedy Drive in South Coatesville Borough was targeted by fraudulent messages and phone calls that resulted in the fraudulent purchase of Apple devices through AT&T. On March 21, troopers said they conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 202 south at mile marker 19.2 in Tredyffrin Township and arrested a 29-year-old Yeadon man on suspicion of DUI involving a 2012 Nissan Sentra.

On March 25 at 12:25 a.m., police said a 36-year-old Coatesville man was taken into custody after a traffic stop on the block of Bondsville Road in Caln Township. The report lists the incident as drug possession and states the operator was allegedly under the influence. Later that day at 2:19 p.m., troopers reported a theft by deception investigation on Glenside Road in West Bradford Township involving a 38-year-old Downingtown man and $250 in stolen cash.

On March 26 at 5:04 p.m., police said they received a Safe2Say report involving an 11-year-old Phoenixville girl in Charlestown Township. According to troopers, the report alleged the child was sexually abused by a current legal guardian and that the incident occurred in Philadelphia while the family was there at the time the report was received. State police said the investigation was referred to Troop J Criminal Investigations. That night at 9:07 p.m., troopers reported arresting a 67-year-old Honey Brook man on suspicion of DUI after a traffic stop on the 1400 block of Ridge Road in South Coventry Township involving a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado.

On March 27 at 10:02 p.m., troopers in neighboring Salisbury Township, Lancaster County, reported charging a 26-year-old Pequea man with drug possession after a traffic stop in the 5700 block of Lincoln Highway involving a 2022 Honda. On March 28 at 1:50 p.m., police said a 49-year-old Spring City woman was charged in a harassment investigation on Marshallton Thorndale Road in West Bradford Township after allegedly sending bizarre and harassing messages to a 51-year-old Downingtown man. On March 31 at 7:56 p.m., troopers reported a fraud investigation on Kennedy Drive in South Coatesville Borough involving a 67-year-old victim.

Police said that on April 1 between 9:54 p.m. and 10:54 p.m., troopers responded to Dallas Street in Atglen Borough for criminal mischief involving a 17-year-old victim. According to investigators, the victim’s 2011 blue BMW 328i and the residence were toilet-papered. On April 2 at 2:37 p.m., troopers responded to Nantmeal Road in East Nantmeal Township, where an 80-year-old Elverson man reported a golf bag and set of clubs worth $4,000 stolen from a residence. Police said the items had been left unattended on the front porch and there were no surveillance cameras.

On April 3 at 8:51 p.m., police said they stopped a 2018 white Toyota van on the 400 block of North First Avenue in Valley Township and found a glass pipe with residue and suspected marijuana. Troopers reported charges were filed against a 37-year-old Downingtown woman. The next day at 1:21 a.m., state police said they arrested a 45-year-old West Chester man on suspicion of DUI after a stop on U.S. 202 south in West Whiteland Township involving a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee. On April 4 at 5:44 p.m., troopers investigated a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 30 east at mile marker 272.4 in Valley Township. Police said a 47-year-old Philadelphia man failed to slow for traffic and struck a recreational vehicle driven by a 51-year-old Boyertown man, causing the striking vehicle to spin onto the shoulder. A 47-year-old driver was taken to Paoli Hospital with suspected minor injuries, while the second driver and a 16-year-old passenger were not hurt.

Police reported two crashes on April 5. At 1:50 p.m., troopers said a 43-year-old Harrisburg woman was driving west on the U.S. 30 Bypass near mile marker 274.8 in Caln Township when her Chevrolet Malibu allegedly hydroplaned, crossed onto the shoulder, struck a downed tree and came to rest on the south shoulder. She was transported to Chester County Hospital with suspected minor injuries, and police listed driving vehicle at a safe speed as the primary violation. At 8:32 p.m., troopers said a 34-year-old Parkesburg man driving a 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan on Lower Valley Road in West Sadsbury Township struck a cow that entered the roadway from the southern shoulder, leaving the vehicle blocking both lanes.

On April 7, police reported several incidents. At 1:30 p.m., troopers cited a 39-year-old Honey Brook woman for scattering rubbish after investigating reports that trash bags were dumped in and around a business dumpster on Horseshoe Pike in Honey Brook Borough. At 2:36 p.m., police said a rear-end crash occurred on Ridge Road at Bulltown Road in Warwick Township, where a 63-year-old Spring City man driving a Ford Five Hundred allegedly struck the rear of a 2024 Toyota 4Runner driven by a 48-year-old Gap man. Troopers said no injuries were reported, the Ford was towed, and the driver was cited for following too closely. At 5:58 p.m., troopers reported six fraudulent transactions totaling $211.94 on a Honey Brook man’s Citadel credit card after responding to Cupola Road in Honey Brook Township. At 7:19 p.m., police said a UPS box with unknown contents was reported stolen from a residence on East Main Street in Elverson Borough.

Troopers reported several DUI-related arrests over the next week. On April 11 at 4:12 a.m., an 18-year-old Downingtown man was arrested after investigators said he approached a crash scene erratically on Poorhouse Road at South Forest Hills in West Bradford Township and was allegedly found to be under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance while driving a 2008 Toyota Sienna. On April 12 at 12:24 a.m., police responded to Strasburg Road in Sadsbury Township for a reported assault, but said no complainant or victim could be located and follow-up attempts were unsuccessful. At 12:31 a.m., troopers in West Whiteland Township arrested a 35-year-old Blue Ball man on suspicion of DUI after a stop on U.S. 30 west involving a 2016 Volkswagen Passat. At 3:33 a.m., police said a 16-year-old West Chester male was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a traffic stop on the block of West Chester Pike in West Goshen Township involving a 2022 Toyota RAV4.

On April 13 at noon, troopers responded to the 2000 block of Pottstown Pike in South Coventry Township for reports of scattered rubbish. Police said a 29-year-old Douglassville man was cited after allegedly scattering trash on a 66-year-old Pottstown man’s property without permission. At 4:19 p.m., police investigated a rear-end crash on East Lincoln Highway east of Whitehall Lane in Sadsbury Township. Troopers said a 39-year-old Gap woman driving west allegedly looked away from the roadway while a school bus was dropping off children and struck the rear of a 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by a 33-year-old West Chester man. Police reported a juvenile passenger sustained a minor cut to the lip and was transported for treatment, and the driver was cited. At 5:19 p.m., troopers responded to Steeple Chase Road in West Bradford Township, where police said a neighbor’s dog got out of confinement and attacked a 57-year-old Downingtown man on his property, causing a minor leg injury. The dog owner, a 40-year-old Downingtown man, was cited, according to police.

On April 14 at 6 p.m., police said a 74-year-old Birdsboro man was cited after troopers responded to Merwood Drive in Honey Brook Township and determined that he had allegedly sent a 44-year-old Morgantown woman unwanted text messages threatening bodily harm. On April 16 at 6:44 p.m., troopers responded to Erica Circle in Honey Brook Township for the report of an elderly man found deceased. Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene, the Chester County Coroner’s Office was notified, and the death was classified as natural.

Additional theft reports remained under investigation, including an April 2 theft case on Nantmeal Road, a vehicle theft on Chestnut Tree Road, a package theft in Elverson, a fraud case involving Apple devices in South Coatesville, an unauthorized credit card transaction case on Cupola Road, a theft investigation on West Lincoln Highway in Valley Township, and a theft-by-deception case on Glenside Road in West Bradford Township, police said.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
