Woman, 57, Dies After Being Struck on North Dupont Highway

NEW CASTLE, DE — A 57-year-old Wilmington woman died after being struck by a car Thursday evening on North Dupont Highway in New Castle, according to Delaware State Police.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17 north of Stahl Avenue, state police said.

According to investigators, a Toyota Corolla was traveling north in the right lane of North Dupont Highway when the pedestrian walked across the northbound lanes and into the vehicle’s path. Police said the Toyota then struck the woman.

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to state police. Police withheld her name pending notification of her family.

The Toyota’s driver, an 18-year-old New Castle woman, was not injured, police said.

North Dupont Highway was closed for approximately 2½ hours while investigators examined and cleared the scene.
