Tragic Newark Collision Leaves Elderly Driver Dead, Family Injured

NEWARK, DE — An early morning collision on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, resulted in the death of an 84-year-old man, according to the Delaware State Police.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:19 a.m. on Christiana Road, west of Browns Lane. A 2013 Honda CR-V, stopped in the westbound left turn lane, attempted to turn left into University Plaza. Simultaneously, a 2018 Honda Pilot traveling eastbound in the right lane collided with the CR-V as it turned into the Pilot’s path. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles.

The driver of the CR-V, a Newark resident, was transported to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead. Authorities are withholding his name pending family notification.

The driver of the Honda Pilot, a 46-year-old woman from Elkton, Maryland, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Two passengers in the Pilot, a 15-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl, were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while officials conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.
