PHILADELPHIA — Scampi, the Queen Village restaurant operated by Chef Liz Grothe, has obtained a liquor license, expanded its beverage program and scheduled a series of collaborative dinners with other Philadelphia restaurants, marking the latest operational changes as the business broadens its offerings after 18 months.
The restaurant will begin serving Pennsylvania-produced wine, beer and spirits through a new partnership with Northeast Philadelphia-based Camuna Cellars, whose wines will be featured during regular dinner service. The expanded beverage menu also includes cocktails made with products from Philadelphia-based Fell to Earth Vermouth while continuing to allow customers to bring their own wine for a $15 corkage fee.
The changes represent Scampi’s first full beverage program after operating primarily as a BYOB restaurant.
Grothe indicated the additions reflect plans to continue evolving the restaurant rather than maintaining a fixed concept.
“Scampi is not meant to be the same restaurant I run for the next 25 years,” Grothe stated. “I plan to evolve the restaurant as I grow and mature as a person.”
She described the partnership with Camuna Cellars as aligning with the restaurant’s emphasis on sourcing local products.
“One thing we’ve always done at Scampi is highlight local products, so partnering with Camuna Cellars fits into our DNA,” Grothe said.
The restaurant also plans three collaboration dinners in August with other Philadelphia culinary businesses.
Chef Ari Miller of Percy will host a dinner at Percy on Aug. 21. Habibi Supper Club will collaborate with Scampi on Aug. 23, while Grothe and Chef Wyatt Piazza will host an Italian American pasta dinner at Kiddo on Aug. 30.
Separately, Scampi has expanded its operating schedule to Tuesday through Sunday. Its à la carte Pasta Shop menu is now available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, as well as for patio walk-in guests Thursdays through Saturdays.
