PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia Zoo has launched a breathtaking new exhibit, “ZOOtopiaries: Nature’s Sculptures,” featuring five giant mosaic topiaries that blend art and nature. Made from over 22 plant species, the towering sculptures include giraffes, a butterfly, a peacock, a snail, and fantastical fish, showcasing intricate designs that mimic the textures of fur, scales, and feathers. Created by Santoline Mosaïculture, this limited-time living art display will run through October and is included with zoo admission.
Highlights of the exhibit include a 21-foot-tall giraffe constructed from 10,000 plants and weighing an impressive 13,100 pounds, and a peacock adorned with 5,000 plants, located in the “Water is Life” area. Each sculpture reflects the zoo’s mission to inspire conservation and connect visitors to the natural world.
“Plants are vital to a healthy ecosystem,” said Philadelphia Zoo President & CEO, Dr. Jo-Elle Mogerman. “We hope these eye-catching mosaic topiaries encourage curiosity about how we can all be better stewards of the planet.”
Visitors can also explore the newly opened “Wildlife Rescue” exhibit by Little Ray’s Exhibitions, which features animal statues and conservation stories, and enjoy enhanced garden spaces through a partnership with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. These additions, including colorful pollinator plants and new shade areas, are part of a broader strategy to revitalize the zoo’s landscape.
With these creative and educational attractions, the Philadelphia Zoo promises an unforgettable experience that celebrates biodiversity and fosters awareness for wildlife and the environment.
