PHILADELPHIA, PA — What does liberty look like? How do you capture justice in a single image? Local artists are being challenged to answer those questions as a new juried exhibition invites creative voices across the region to interpret two of the nation’s most enduring ideals.
Box Spring Gallery is calling on artists to submit work for Liberty & Justice, an exhibition tied to Philadelphia’s 250th anniversary celebrations. The show will explore how abstract concepts can be expressed visually through reflections on Philadelphia, the nation’s anniversary, historical events, or current issues.
Submissions are due May 30, offering artists the chance to have their work considered for a juried exhibition at Crane Arts.
The exhibition opens May 7 and runs through June 6. A public reception is scheduled for Thursday, May 14, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Adding to the gallery’s spring programming, COLOR FIELDS presents work by Kathleen Greco and Joye Schwartz in a shared celebration of flowers, pigments, and complementary representations.
A Season of Art and Celebration
The call for art is part of a broader season of creative events in Philadelphia. Later in the month, the Center for Emerging Visual Artists will host Art Party 2026, bringing together local artists and art lovers for an evening with skyline views, an auction, creative cocktails, and art-inspired bites.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP’s rooftop lounge and terrace.
