Pennsylvania Teen Arrested on Multiple Gun Charges in North Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE — An 18-year-old Pennsylvania man was arrested on multiple felony gun charges following a suspicious persons investigation at a North Wilmington shopping center, according to the Delaware State Police.

The suspect, identified as Logan Smith of Aston, Pennsylvania, was apprehended on October 24, 2023, around 8:34 p.m. at the Fairfax Shopping Center located on Concord Pike in Wilmington.

According to the criminal complaint, troopers responded to reports of several individuals allegedly carrying firearms behind the shopping center. Upon arrival, they found a group of people behind Dogtopia of Wilmington located at 2101 Concord Pike. As troopers approached, several individuals fled on foot into the adjacent neighborhood.

During the search of the area, a trooper noticed a suspicious male walking on Thomas Road. The individual, later identified as Smith, was stopped for a pat-down search, which led to the discovery of a loaded handgun in his waistband. Smith was taken into custody without incident.

Further investigation revealed that Smith is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm and/or ammunition. He was charged with possession of an assault weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a weapon with a removed, obliterated, or altered serial number, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, and resisting arrest.

Smith was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $47,300 cash bond.
