Philadelphia Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault in Coatesville

COATESVILLE, PA — On Wednesday afternoon, May 1, 2024, the Coatesville Police Department apprehended 23-year-old Sharode Smith of Philadelphia following an incident involving gunfire. According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the vicinity of 31 South 10th Avenue around 4:25 P.M., after receiving calls about shots being fired into the air.

The initial report stemmed from a confrontation that occurred on the 700 block of East Harmony Street. A caller recounted an encounter with Smith and a female companion. After a casual greeting led to a misunderstanding, an argument ensued, during which Smith allegedly brandished a firearm and discharged it in the direction of the caller.

Authorities located Smith without incident in the 500 block of East Harmony Street, where he was found in possession of a firearm. He was subsequently charged with aggravated assault among other related offenses. Following arraignment, Smith was detained at the Chester County Prison, unable to post the $50,000 bail set.
