Overnight Resurfacing Work to Begin on Major Routes in Manheim Township

Traffic Restrictions

MANHEIM TOWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that significant resurfacing work will begin Monday, July 7, on several key roadways in Manheim Township near Lancaster City.

The project includes milling and paving operations on Route 72, Route 222 (McGovern Avenue), and Fruitville Pike (Route 4011). Work is scheduled nightly from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Monday through Friday, for approximately two weeks, with lane restrictions expected during these hours.

Following the paving, additional improvements such as guiderail upgrades and other maintenance activities will continue, potentially requiring further lane restrictions. The targeted sections include Route 222 between Lime Street and Prince Street, Route 72 from McGovern Avenue to Fruitville Pike, and Fruitville Pike extending just north of Keller Avenue.

This effort is part of a broader $1.51 million pavement preservation contract aimed at enhancing road conditions across PennDOT’s District 8, which covers eight counties in south-central Pennsylvania. The work, carried out by New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., is slated for completion by July 1, 2026.

PennDOT advises motorists to expect delays and adjust travel plans accordingly, emphasizing that all scheduled activities are weather dependent.
