NCCN Staff, Patient Guides Receive National Awards and Recognition

PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — National Comprehensive Cancer Network said several staff members, research initiatives and patient education programs received national recognition for work related to cancer policy, equity, scientific research and patient communication.

Alyssa Schatz, vice president of policy and advocacy at NCCN, received the Leadership in Policy, Equity, and Advocacy honor through the Booker T. Washington Awards presented by the National Minority Quality Forum.

Schatz works with the Alliance for Cancer Care Equity alongside the National Minority Quality Forum and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network on initiatives including the Health Equity Report Card, which measures equitable cancer care practices.

An article examining early implementation of the Health Equity Report Card in community cancer care settings was also published in the Journal of Oncology Navigation & Survivorship.

Separately, Faviolla Baez-Cruz, associate scientist and medical writer at NCCN, received a 2026 Journal of Biological Chemistry award from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for research involving beta-cardiac myosin and cardiomyopathies.

The study explored protein activity related to heart muscle contraction and disease development.

NCCN’s patient education materials also received recognition.

The NCCN Guidelines for Patients: Bone Cancer received a Gold Hermes Creative Award for publications and informational materials from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.

The organization’s NCCN Guidelines for Patients: Liver Cancer was named a finalist for the 2026 ClearMark Award presented by the Center for Plain Language.

NCCN said its patient guideline library includes more than 70 publications covering cancer treatment, prevention, screening and supportive care, available free at NCCN.org/patients.
