PHILADELPHIA, PA — Banking technology provider Matera has introduced a platform that allows banks and credit unions to offer stablecoins, cryptocurrencies and other digital assets without replacing their existing core banking systems, lowering the technical barriers to entering the digital asset market.
The platform, called Matera Workspace, combines a real-time transaction ledger, payment technology, digital asset custody integrations and trading capabilities through a single connection to an institution’s existing banking infrastructure.
Matera said the system is designed to let financial institutions manage traditional currencies and digital assets within the same account environment, rather than operating separate platforms for cryptocurrency holdings and conventional deposits.
At the center of Workspace is Digital Twin, Matera’s real-time ledger technology, which the company already uses to support instant payments.
The ledger records balances across U.S. dollars, euros, stablecoins, cryptocurrencies and tokenized financial instruments, allowing institutions to display different asset types within a unified customer account interface.
The platform also incorporates Matera’s X9.150 Secure Payment QR technology and integrations with digital asset custody providers.
By combining those functions, Matera is seeking to reduce the number of separate technology vendors banks must integrate when developing digital asset products.
The company said institutions can establish a working pilot in approximately one hour without migrating their core systems. That timeframe applies to initial testing rather than a full commercial deployment.
Carlos Netto, Matera’s co-founder and chief executive officer for North America, said the platform is intended to reduce the investment required to evaluate digital asset services.
“Banks aren’t short on interest in digital assets — they’re short on a way to start that doesn’t begin with a core replacement and an eighteen-month business case,” Netto said.
Workspace includes a trading engine that allows customers to transact directly with their bank rather than through an external marketplace.
Matera said that structure is designed to keep transactions within the institution’s existing regulatory framework, although participating banks remain responsible for meeting applicable compliance requirements.
The platform also provides tools for institutions to develop additional products, including a configurable interface builder and artificial intelligence-assisted workflows.
Those capabilities are intended to allow banks to expand digital asset services without developing each application independently.
The launch extends Matera’s existing real-time payments infrastructure into digital asset management and trading, positioning the company to serve financial institutions seeking to add cryptocurrency and tokenized asset capabilities while retaining their current banking systems.
