PHILADELPHIA, PA — Snowfall on Main Street, thousands of twinkling lights, visits with Santa and a festive trolley will transform Manayunk into a holiday destination as the Philadelphia neighborhood launches six weeks of celebrations beginning Nov. 19, 2026.

Presented by the Manayunk Development Corporation, Holidays in Manayunk runs through New Year’s Day, combining a major Christmas tree lighting, a neighborhood decorating competition, shopping events, family activities and charitable initiatives supporting local families.

The festivities begin with the annual tree lighting at Canal View Park, where two snow machines will create a winter atmosphere alongside live entertainment, hot cocoa and an appearance by Santa Claus.

Last year’s celebration attracted more than 10,000 people, according to organizers, and this year’s event will launch an expanded holiday calendar featuring more than 40 businesses competing in the Manayunk Gets Lit decorating contest.

Snow Returns for Manayunk’s Holiday Tree Lighting

The celebration begins Thursday, Nov. 19, at 5:30 p.m. at Canal View Park, 4418 Main St., with student performances from Bach to Rock Wayne.

Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive at 6 p.m., followed by performances from John Viscardi and Lady Alma, Ghostlight Players and The City Belles.

The Christmas tree lighting takes place at 7 p.m., officially launching the neighborhood’s holiday decorating competition.

Families can enjoy letters to Santa, North Pole elves, glow giveaways, hot cocoa and opportunities for photographs with Santa.

“Every holiday season, we take pride in showcasing the true heart of our district — our vibrant local businesses and the incredible community that supports them,” said Carla Ferro, events manager at the Manayunk Development Corporation.

“Thanks to the collaboration between residents, local shops, and visitors, Main Street transforms into a festive, one-of-a-kind experience that feels straight out of a holiday movie.”

More Than 40 Businesses Compete to Light Up Main Street

The annual Manayunk Gets Lit decorating competition begins Nov. 19, with more than 40 businesses decorating storefronts, windows and rooftops with elaborate holiday displays.

Participating businesses include Taqueria Amor, Lucky’s Last Chance, Philadelphia Runner, The Little Apple, Tubby Robot Ice Cream Factory, City of Paws, Bayou Bar and numerous other Main Street establishments.

Visitors can vote for their favorite displays in categories including Best Overall, Most Lit and Most Creative. Those who participate in voting can enter for a chance to win a $200 Manayunk shopping spree.

The competition continues through the holiday season, while Get Lit Weekends begin Dec. 4.

On Friday and Saturday evenings through Dec. 19, the complimentary Manayunk Jolly Trolley will travel along Main Street from 5 to 9 p.m., stopping near participating businesses.

The decorated trolley will feature holiday music and singalongs, giving visitors a way to enjoy the lights while exploring neighborhood shops and restaurants.

Santa Meet-and-Greets and New Family Activities

New this year, the Manayunk Development Corporation will transform its space at 106 Grape St. into a holiday workshop for free visits and photographs with Santa.

Santa Merry Meet & Greets are scheduled for Dec. 4, 5, 18 and 19, with Friday sessions from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday sessions from 2 to 5 p.m.

Pet owners can bring their four-legged companions for Santa Paws photo opportunities Dec. 11 and 12.

Families can also participate in a new Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt, searching for hidden elves at participating Main Street businesses.

Using the Let’s Rallie app, participants can follow clues and scan QR codes at each discovery. Finding six elves qualifies participants for a prize drawing.

Another new promotion, the 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway, runs Dec. 7–18, with daily Instagram contests featuring prizes from Manayunk restaurants, retailers and specialty businesses.

Small Business Saturday Brings Shopping Rewards

Manayunk’s Small Business Saturday celebration returns Nov. 28, with more than 50 neighborhood businesses offering shopping specials, promotions and events.

The Manayunk Shop Small Passport program will encourage visitors to explore multiple establishments.

Shoppers can collect stickers with qualifying purchases at participating stores, restaurants and other businesses. Collecting six stickers allows participants to redeem a prize at the Manayunk Welcome Center and enter a larger giveaway.

Participating businesses will offer a range of promotions, including merchandise discounts, dining specials, holiday portraits and complimentary gifts with purchases.

The shopping initiative also highlights nearly a dozen newly opened or recently expanded neighborhood businesses.

Holiday Pop-Ups, Haunted Christmas and Hanukkah Celebrations

Taqueria Amor, 4410 Main St., will launch its seventh annual holiday pop-up Nov. 19 with a tropical Christmas theme called “Hang Ten Rudolph.”

The restaurant will feature extensive holiday decorations, themed cocktails, tropical-inspired dishes and screenings of classic holiday movie clips.

For visitors seeking a different seasonal experience, Lincoln Mill Haunted House will present Twisted Christmas on Dec. 11 and 12.

The attraction combines holiday decorations with scare actors and a haunted-house experience. Tickets are available at https://lincolnmillhaunt.com.

Manayunk will also celebrate Hanukkah with a community candle lighting presented with Mt. Airy Chabad at Canal View Park, along with seasonal treats, giveaways and gelt at the Manayunk Welcome Center during the Festival of Lights.

Rudolph Run Supports Local Food Pantry

The 11th Annual Rudolph Run returns Saturday, Dec. 12, inviting participants to dress in holiday attire for a three-mile fun run along the Manayunk towpath.

Organized by Philadelphia Runner, the event begins with check-in and donation collection at 8:30 a.m. at 4358 Main St. The run starts at 9 a.m. at Canal View Park.

Instead of a traditional registration fee, participants are asked to bring a canned or nonperishable food item for the North Light Community Center’s food cupboard.

The event includes red noses, jingle bells, hot cocoa, post-run refreshments and opportunities to test Brooks footwear.

Participating neighborhood businesses will also offer post-run specials.

Registration information is available at https://runsignup.com/phillyrudolphrun.

Holiday Giving Supports Families in Need

Community assistance remains an important part of the neighborhood’s holiday programming.

Operation Santa Claus begins Nov. 20 through a partnership between the Manayunk Development Corporation and North Light Community Center.

Residents and visitors can select a gift request from the holiday tree at the Manayunk Welcome Center, 106 Grape St., and donate the requested item to support a local family.

The program encourages participants to purchase gifts based on the specific needs identified on the tree.

Another longstanding initiative, Manayunk Meals and More, will bring together more than 15 local restaurants to prepare and deliver more than 700 holiday meals to neighbors in need.

Participating restaurants will contribute entrees, salads and desserts, producing approximately 2,100 meal components for delivery through North Light Community Center on Dec. 13.
