WILMINGTON, DE — The LYCRA Company is expanding its presence in the disposable hygiene market with the commercial rollout of LYCRA ADAPTIV fiber for nonwoven products, targeting manufacturers of diapers, adult incontinence products, and feminine care items as demand grows for better fit, comfort, and leak protection.
The company introduced the product globally at the INDEX 26 trade show in Geneva, positioning the fiber as an effort to extend technology previously used in apparel into higher-growth personal care categories.
The launch reflects increasing competition among hygiene product manufacturers to differentiate through fit, stretch performance, and wearer comfort rather than absorbency alone, particularly in premium baby care and adult incontinence segments.
According to the company, the fiber is designed to adapt to body movement and sizing variations while reducing concentrated compression that can leave marks on the skin. The material is intended to improve flexibility, shape retention, and product stability during wear.
Doug Kelliher, executive vice president of product at The LYCRA Company, characterized the launch as an attempt to address evolving consumer expectations around comfort and personalization in disposable hygiene products.
“By introducing our proven apparel innovation to this space, we help manufacturers deliver a more personalized, comfortable, and secure wearing experience—without adding product complexity,” Kelliher stated.
The company cited internal research identifying several unmet consumer demands in hygiene products, including fit flexibility, ease of use, and improved stay-in-place performance. The material is also designed to support broader sizing ranges and easier application and removal for caregivers and users.
The expansion into nonwovens comes as suppliers across the hygiene industry increasingly invest in materials technology to capture growth in aging populations, premium infant care, and higher-value personal care products.
INDEX 26, where the launch was unveiled, is one of the largest international trade exhibitions focused on nonwoven materials and related technologies.
